3G (Third Generation) is the latest wireless technology. It is also known as UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System), an improvement over 2G (Second Generation) providing wireless access to the data and information to the users from any where and anytime. It is the latest mobile technology and in fact it is describe by Cellular (2004) as being a generic name for the host of mobile technologies.
3G cellular phones were first launched in Japan in October 2001. This 3G phone was designed so users would be able to surf the Internet, view pictures of the people they are talking to, watch movies and listen to music on their handsets .

What are the benefits of 3G?
You can perform all those functions that you perform at present with your mobile devices but at much higher speed than before. It provides you with faster connectivity, faster internet access, and music entertainment with improved quality. The benefits are immense. You can avail the benefits of video calling. You can call you friend and have a video call facility. The clarity is better and the facility can be enjoyed as long as both of you are using the 3G technology.

With 3G technology it is possible to access any site on the Internet by using your phone as a modem for your computer or laptop and mail the important documents. Downloading games and songs is much faster with this technology. You can download your favorite games into your mobile and start playing. You can also download the music videos or simply the songs. The technology enable for much faster download. Hence it will take only few minutes to download movie clips or albums.

You can use your favourite search engines to find information on news headlines, get information about the evening weather so that you can plan your party. You can find out the latest baseball score and any latest news about your favorite sport. The 3G phones with their advanced feature will also enable you to watch exciting highlights of your favorite sport. With the increased speed and improved quality of the services provided in the 3G phones, you can view the multimedia data applications like movie clips and the music videos with more clear picture than with the 2.5G technology mobiles.

The 3G technology provide you with the data transmission speed of up to 2Mbps when you are using the phone on stationary mode. It also provides significantly faster data transfer rates of connectivity and increased networking and most importantly the resistance to noise.

The technology has in fact increased the bit rate thus enabling the service providers to provide high speed internet facilities, increased call volumes and host of the multimedia applications to their customers. All these services can be provided to the customers on the basis of the amount of data they transmit and not on the time for which they use the service thus making the services cheaper for us.

A great deal of potential exists for new applications in the future as 3G packet based networks will allow users to be on line all the time. The capabilities of wireless networks in terms of bandwidth must still, however, be improved upon (3GNewsroom.com, n.d.).

Conclusion:
3G is an exciting new technology that is being incorporated into mobile devices across the globe. Users are now able to make person-to-person calls, download data and do a variety of other tasks they never imagined possible all via their 3G cell phones.

Nokia has done a great job of creating the next evolution of its E-series business phones.
Featuring the E66 and the E71, Nokia’s latest E-Series phones. Surely, the Nokia E71 is bound to be a favorite. Relatively lightweight for 127 grams (6 grams lighter than iPhone) and with body made of steel and high density plastic, making it sturdy and sleek.
Despite its obvious lack of an oversized touchscreen interface, Nokia E71 gains points for a remarkably trim profile (10mm vs. 12.3mm), decent 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash and most of all, a gorgeous hardware packed with a satisfying range of FUN-ctional features.
Setting up Nokia’s Mail for Exchange program required no IT help or time. QuickOffice let you create, edit and send Word/Excel/PowerPoint files on the fly while you browsed PDFs with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
The E71 is stocked with enough apps and goodies to keep even the most overworked road warrior on the ball, but it didn’t feel too “business.” That’s mostly due to the fact that the E71 has two separate customizable home screens, one is designed to house all of your work apps like Excel and PowerPoint while the other is geared more towards entertainment with programs for audio, video and gaming.
Switching between the two is very simple, a dedicated button at the top of the menu lets you toggle between the two screens instantly. Up to 8 GB in an easy-to-access external microSD slot, the E71 features a business centric connectivity.
The E71 includes quick and seamless OS, A-GPS function, 3G, WiFi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, a 110MB onboard memory and a dedicated 128MB RAM and ARM 11,369 MHz processor to make the phone works express.
The screen is very bright and clear, all of the surfaces are high gloss and the textured stainless steel backing prevents slippage.
It also has a features assign purely on security, the WEP and WPA2 security, a built-in encryption features for both the device’s memory and the memory card, as well as integrated mobile VPN support, device lock and wipe features.
This allows the E71 and the memory card in it to locked remotely if it is lost or stolen, and requires a PIN to unlock it.
With its combination of excellent features and performance, matched with sleek design, Nokia’s E71 will surely outshine recently released smartphones as our business phone of choice.

Apple has signed deals with four major telecommunication companies in four countries to help the company surpass its iPhone sales goal of 10 million units by the end of 2008.
Singapore’s SingTel, India’s Bharti Airtel, Phillipines’ Globe Telecom, and Australia’s Optus, will begin carrying the iPhone “later this year.” But Globe Telecom had already made an announcement.
Yes, you read that right my patient ones. Globe Telecom announced in its web site that they already have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to the Philippines.
According to Globe, the iPhone may be launched locally starting September this year. However, bringing the iPhone to Asia may require a different service provider infrastructure being used by that in the US.
So it is safe to assume that the model would be a new 3G-enabled one, since 3G is the new industry standard for this part of the world.
It combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking, built-in GPS, and iPhone 2.0 software. “We are very excited to be working with Apple to bring Filipino consumers iPhone 3G later this year,” said Gerardo C. Ablaza, Jr. president and CEO of Globe Telecom.
Good news for you patient ones still waiting for its official launch. Bad news for those who couldn’t wait and bought other brands.
So let us begin the countdown!

Cellphone In Schools: Good or Bad?

Cellphones are now the most sought after device in today’s technology. This innovation has prove its worth despite the facts that there are still people who are in contradiction to this device.
Yet we cannot hide the facts that there are more pros than cons on this one. But what has come to my interest is the future impact of cellphones on education and our children.
It made me wonder what it will be like to go to school now with full access to cellphones that can be freely used by students.
In fact, this issue or concern of whether students could be allowed to freely bring their cellphones to school have been under fire in different schools today. Some schools even have already ban the bringing of this device inside their classes.
Raising issues like, that this very device could be the reason that would affect our children’s study or be use in wrong manner like cheating during exams/test, take pictures in locker room and bathrooms, arrange drug deals and/or adult content that is freely accessible in the web.
Isolated cases that involved few students from different schools and not all students are like that, how far we can go if we punished the majority for the crimes of a few.
I personally agree with the advantages of cellphones, iPods and other devices that can store and transfer files and be used for the collection and use of digital artifacts.
We parents these days rely more on cell phones to keep track of our children and communicate with them. Our kids also need cell phones to coordinate plans with friends and parents.
The safety of our children is also one of the most important issue that raise concern by most parents, not only during school, but before and after school.
We want our children to have the freedom and mobility and we want them to also accept the responsibility that goes with this. Let us not deprive them their right.
So as parents, we should be the best model in proper practice and sensible use of this technologies innovation.
In the end, its is our children who shall reap the fruits of this innovation and I believe this is the way forward for education.
