About Sony Ericsson
Ericsson was founded in 1876 as a telegraph equipment repair shop by Lars Magnus Ericsson, It is now one of the largest Swedish companies. As production grew in the late 1890s, The company was able to expand, Britain and Russia were the first foreign markets. On October 1, 2001 a joint venture was established between Sony Corporation and Ericsson to make mobile phones. This venture was good for both company as it combined Sony's expertise in consumer electronics and Ericsson's leadership in the communications sector. Although Sony has their own cellphone it did not succeed and only manage less than 1% of the market.
Although the marriage was made in heaven as the say the company faced a rough start, it's market share fell in 2002. However the idea to make new phones which features digital photography and multimedia capabilities has been a success and help the companies turn around. According to IT research firm Gartner, Sony-Ericsson is third-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world after Nokia and Samsung. This success was credited to the adaption of Sony's popular Walkman and Cyber-shot series. Today, the company's focus are on the categories of: music, camera, business (web and email), design, all-rounder, and budget focused phones.
